Summery Indulgence with 100% Pure Maple Syrup

Hello, everyone!

The peak of summer season is around the corner and like every year, seems like there’s going to be more heat to tolerate than the previous year! But don’t you fear because these new refreshing recipes of cold popsicles made with 100% pure maple syrup from Canada are here!!!

I usually consume more water (and ice) to beat the heat during summers in Mumbai and while doing so every year, my constant attention is undivided towards how much sugar I end up consuming; because c’mon, in that moment of weakness, the temptation or urge of picking up a bottle of cola or a tetra pack of juice, is equally intolerable.

This time, I decided to stock up on different kinds of ice-trays (purchased from Cheap Jack in Bandra) and also different kinds of molds that make popsicles from Kitchen Palace located at Lokhandwala Market.

I would like to honestly mention that I have just recently started to think of creative ideas for popsicles, but I really hope you enjoy reading and re-creating Bacon & Bourbon Pops with some insanely refreshing Tangy & Citrusy Popsciles for my vegetarian friends as well.

   BACON & BOURBON POPS

INGREDIENTS
* 1 vanilla bean
* 2 cups of heavy cream
* 1 cup milk
* 1/4 cup bourbon
* 1 cup pure maple syrup
* 2 slices cooked smoked bacon
(crumbled)

DIRECTIONS

Scrape out seeds from a vanilla bean or two.

Bring vanilla bean seeds, cream, bourbon and cooked bacon in a saucepan over medium-low heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Stir it occasionally.

Remove the saucepan from heat within 5 to 7 minutes and let it cool down completely. Don’t touch it for about 30 to 45 minutes preferably.

After the mixture has cooled down, whisk it with 100% pure maple syrup from Canada and 1 cup of lukewarm water.

Mix it well, till the mixture is frothy.

Pour mixture evenly into 3 or 4 ounce molds and freeze it (without sticks) for 1 hour or until it’s slushy.

After an hour of freezing, push crumbled bacon bits into those slushy pops, distributing pieces evenly throughout.

Place the sticks in the molds and freeze them again for 4 to 6 hours, or until it’s completely firm. Unmold and serve it immediately as these sinfully delicious popsicles will melt within just a few seconds, not allowing you adequate time for even a quick capture and post on your social profiles. Happy slurping!

Unmold and enjoy these Bacon & Bourbon Popsicles immediately!!!

TANGY & CITRUSY POPSICLES

INGREDIENTS
* 1/2 glass orange juice (100-125 ml)
* 1/2 glass sweet lime juice (100-125 ml)
* 1/2 glass watermelon juice (100-125 ml)
* 1 lemon’s juice
* fresh basil leaves
* thin slices of orange & sweet lime

DIRECTIONS

Pour all the 3 juices into a mixing bowl.

Add lemon juice and whole basil leaves if needed. Stir it well.

Pour the juice-mixture into the molds.

You can either cook those thin slices of orange and sweet lime with 100% pure maple syrup in a saucepan for 5 to 7 minutes, or if you don’t mind biting into the bitterness of zest like me, simply cut them into halves and add them directly into the molds without cooking.

Finely chop some basil leaves and top them up onto the molds.

Place the lids on top of the molds and freeze it for 4 to 6 hours, or until it’s completely firm.

After 6 hours, unmold and serve Tangy & Citrusy Popsicles immediately!

Incorporating small changes in my life, like replacing refined sugars and other sweeteners with natural and 100% pure maple syrup from Canada (with a regular workout regime of course) has helped me lead a healthier life; especially during summers. You can also easily replace white or brown sugar with an equivalent volume of maple syrup in your daily consumption. Just don’t forget to reduce the quantity of the liquid by 1/4 or 1/2 in your recipes accordingly, every time you decide to do so.
